Ward 5 includes 19 distinct neighborhoods: Aboretum, Bloomingdale, Brentwood, Brookland, Carver Langston, Eckington, Edgewood, Fort Lincoln, Fort Totten, Gateway, Ivy City, Riggs Park, Langdon, Michigan Park, North Michigan Park, Pleasant Hill, Trinidad, Truxton Circle/Bates, and Woodridge. Each neighborhood has unique characteristics that make Ward 5 one of the most diverse and interesting areas of Washington, D.C.

Ward 5 is also slated to receive a range of economic development projects during the next 10 to 20 years.
