with Ward 5 Councilmember Thomas, has established the Ward 5 Business Council. The mission of the Ward 5 Business Council
is to assist Ward 5 businesses—particularly small, minority- and women-owned businesses—succeed and prosper.

Objectives
·
To provide business assistance, educational
opportunities, seminars, and other services to the Ward 5 business community.
· To create networking opportunities for small Ward 5 businesses with
larger institutions in the Ward and throughout the city.
· To advocate on behalf of Ward 5 businesses with District agencies, the City Council,
and the Office of Mayor.
· To expand the involvement of Ward 5 business in the economic development opportunities occurring in the
Ward.
·
To promote workforce development initiatives
so that District residents have the skills necessary to participate in the economic development opportunities that will occur
in the Ward during the next 10 to 20 years.
